New Vaccine by Elanco Promotes Cattle Health

Keep Your Cattle Healthy

GREENFIELD, Ind., July 15, 2025 — Elanco Animal Health Incorporated (NYSE: ELAN) announces the release of NUPLURA PH+5™. It is a new low endotoxin cattle vaccine which to protects calves from several respiratory diseases.

A combination of Titanium 5, the first modified live vaccine to include a Type 2 BVD, and NUPLURA PH+. NUPLURA PH+5 is a low endotoxin, gram-negative bacterial vaccine.

NUPLURA PH+5 is a Mannheimia haemolytica subunit vaccine with use in combination with a five-way modified live viral vaccine. With multiple active ingredients, NUPLURA PH+5 uses are for protection against a host of diseases. Diseses include Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) types 1 and 2, Parainfluenza3 (PI3), and Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV).
“The two important components of NUPLURA PH+5 include a recombinant leukotoxoid and outer membrane proteins,” says Dr. Brett Terhaar. He is Elanco’s Beef Technical Consultant. “That combination provides a consistently high level of leukotoxoid and outer membrane proteins to direct the immune system to those very important virulence factors while providing a low endotoxin vaccine.”

A modified live virus vaccine, Titanium protects cattle from key respiratory and reproductive pathogens. Additionally, it does so without post-vaccinal stress. Stresses are measured by body temperature, feed intake, injection-site reaction and white blood cell counts1.
NUPLURA PH+ uses recombinant leukotoxoid technology and outer membrane proteins to provide protective immunity against Mannheimia haemolytica as few as 10 days after vaccination.
“With NUPLURA PH+5 we help the calf have a good day while also avoiding the stress. Additionally avoiding slowed weight gain that may be related to vaccination protocols with large amounts of endotoxins,” says Terhaar. “NUPLURA PH+5 is easy on cattle and tough on disease making it an integral part of a good animal husbandry vaccine program.”

To better understand the science driving the vaccine’s low endotoxin levels, Terhaar recommends picturing a basketball.
“If you shave off all the basketball’s dimples, those dimples represent the outer membrane proteins we are presenting to the calf through NUPLURA PH+5,” Terhaar explains. “Because we eliminate the rest of the basketball, which represents the bacteria’s complete cell wall and associated endotoxin, we can greatly decrease the endotoxin load. In comparison, some gram-negative vaccines deliver 70,000 to 120,000 endotoxin units, which is vastly more than the endotoxin load provided by NUPLURA PH+5, which is approximately 1,500.2
