PRO Refrigeration Unveils the PROGreen50: A Leap Toward Smarter, Sustainable
Cooling
July 3, 2025 – Auburn, WA — PROChiller Systems proudly announces the official launch of
the PROGreen50, a next-generation CO2-based chiller designed for North America’s top
dairies, food producers, and craft beverage makers. This marks a pivotal expansion of the
company’s PROGreen Solutions initiative—first introduced with the pioneering
PROGreen100 systems now in operation at seven California dairies and a craft distillery in
Alaska.
Building on the success of the PROGreen100, the PROGreen50 introduces a compact,
highly efficient design suited for smaller operations. It delivers superior cooling
performance while reclaiming waste heat, making it an ideal fit for applications demanding
both chilling and hot water—such as those in dairy farming and craft brewing.
Strengthened by Industry-Leading Partners
The PROGreen50 launch is further bolstered by key industry partners who bring unmatched
expertise and technology to the project. Future Green Now will return and serve as a
refrigeration engineering partner, continuing what began five years ago with the first
PROGreen system. “This is an exciting project. The goals have changed, this time more
focus is on efficiency and affordability,” Wynand Groenwald, CEO at FGN, adding “Both
teams have learned so much, huge benefit to apply that directly into this new system.”
Additionally, Dorin Compressor has joined as an early supply partner. “We are honored to
support PRO as a supplier partner on this important project, helping to explore and develop
CO2 solutions — more common among our European customers — that maximize
efficiencies and performance.” said Giacomo Pisano, head of CO2 Compressors Business
Development for Dorin.
Another strategic partner includes Thermal Supply Inc., a leading NW focused Refrigeration
Wholesaler, providing PRO’s team access to training facilities and providing some great
discounts to purchase critical tools that today’s service technicians need to support this
new technology.
These partnerships underscore the commitment to delivering a durable, efficient,
serviceable, and affordable chiller solution targeting GWP 1.
“The PROGreen50 represents our boldest step forward in sustainable refrigeration,” said
Jim VanderGiessen, CEO of PRO Refrigeration. “This system is about doing more with
less—smaller footprint, sharper efficiency, and a real-world solution to reducing synthetic
refrigerant use. We are also focused on providing an affordable solution with a solid ROI.”
A Call to Collaborate
To bring this solution to market, PRO is building a PROGreen Team, made up of; customers,
colleagues, engineers, dealers, suppliers, contractors, industry experts, and more.
Participants collaborate on system development, field testing, storytelling, and customer
education, helping to fine-tune the technology and maximize its impact.
At the core, the PROGreen50 will be more than a process chiller system using CO2 as a
refrigerant— it will set the bar high for the competition on efficiency, durability, serviceably,
and return on investment.
Key system features include:
• Dual compressor system with variable frequency drives
• Air-cooled gas cooler with adiabatic features
• PROHeat2o dual-loop heat recovery
• 400-gallon glycol reservoir and dual-process pumps
• Factory and field training, remote monitoring, and full commissioning
• Three-year full warranty and support plan
Nick Gislason, acclaimed winemaker, brewer, and founder of Hanabi Lager Company, will
host the first PROGreen50 system at his brewery in Napa Valley. “We’re honored to pioneer
this technology,” said Gislason. “I see huge potential for CO2-based refrigeration in
industries that haven’t considered it seriously. I hope we can prove the performance and
sustainability benefits and open the door for more wineries and breweries to adopt this
game-changing solution.”
